💼 What You’ll Be Doing
Position Summary: The Countertops Team Lead supports the Production Manager and Shop Foreman in supervising the Countertop Department, including assisting with hiring, assigning and directing work, and providing input on performance reviews. This role provides hands-on guidance to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality production, while fostering a positive team environment. The Team Lead is responsible for ensuring smooth operations in the department and must be skilled in building countertop projects and other Plastic Laminate and Solid Surface fabrication as needed. This position is accountable for driving results in Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost, and Morale through servant leadership and technical expertise.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Provide direct supervision and coaching to the Countertops Team.
- Responsible for executing the MDI (Managing Daily Improvement) strategy and meeting established expectations.
- Maintain a safe and organized work area, always being observant of possible hazards and ensuring compliance with all safety regulations/expectations.
- Understand at what stage each project/task all the team members are working on and when the task will be completed.
- With assistance from the shop foreman, issue out next assignment at least one day before team member(s) have completed their current assignment.
- Communicate with machine dept and inventory clerk for needs. Give both plenty of time to fulfill the requests.
- Provide answers to team members’ questions. Starting with team leader, secondly the shop foreman, thirdly the production manager, lastly to engineers and/or project managers.
- Gather QC sheets form each team member as projects complete. Make sure all items meet the quality standards.
- Monitor cleanliness of work area(s). Remove scrap, sweep floors. Coordinate staging of completed products.
- Assist shop foreman with ideas and recommendations for efficiencies within the team and it’s work area(s).
- Review daily time-sheets from previous day. Verify accuracy of punches.
- Report weekly progress and percentages to production manager for schedule updates.
- Attend and lead monthly department meetings.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks in a deadline-oriented environment.
- Organize and adjust team member assignments and placement throughout the day according to production needs.
- Communicate necessary instructions and updates to 2nd shift (When running multiple shifts) to ensure workflow continuity. Some crossover into the 2nd shift may also be necessary at times.
- Build countertops from cut list through completion.
- Buffs countertops, including drop or stacked edges, radiuses, multi-level tops, grommet cut-outs, grommet build ups, polished cut outs, and sink cut outs.
- Knowledgeable on how to properly handle and build solid surface; possess the ability to identify colors.
- Accurately label all parts that make up a countertop with all pertinent information relating to the countertop that is being worked on.
- Possess tools and/or has the ability to obtain tools as indicated on the tool list (see provided list)
- Skilled in using a file, chisel, screwdriver, handsaw, clamps, biscuit joiner, router, drill, belt sander, pneumatic stapler, table saw and chop saw; Must also have the ability to accurately read a tape measure
- Previous knowledge or experience in countertop fabrication

- Knowledge of LEAN/5S methodology and practices preferred

- Have full understanding of shop drawings; know how to relate the elevations, plan views, and detail (section cut) view and how to fabricate countertops using these three elements.
- Have strong ability to solve problems regarding machining mistakes, unclear shop drawings, etc. in order to complete projects in a timely manner
- Excellent interpersonal and strong communication skills (verbal and written)
- 💰 Salary: $21 to $26 an hour, commensurate with experience.
- Job Type: Full-time, Monday–Friday, 6:00am–2:30pm (with the expectation of additional hours as required).

- Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to moving machinery in a temperature-controlled environment and includes exposure to contaminants (mainly dust). Noise level: moderate to high (appropriate PPE is provided to all employees).
