Position Summary: The Programming and Machining Lead is a dual-responsibility, working lead position. The employee serves as a primary Programmer and Machinist while simultaneously driving daily workflow, scheduling, and training. This role supports the Production Manager and Shop Foreman by supervising the programming and machinery department, assigning and directing daily work, and assisting with team training and performance input.

The Lead ensures smooth, efficient operations, converting engineering drawings into precise manufacturing code and overseeing physical production on shop machinery. This role is directly accountable for driving departmental results in Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost, and Morale through servant leadership, mentorship, and technical expertise.

💼 What You’ll Be Doing
1. Departmental Leadership & Supervisory Support

  • Supervision & Coaching: Provide direct supervision, coaching, and floor guidance to the Programming and Machining team.
  • Professional Conduct: Maintain a high level of professionalism, discretion, and mature communication; establish clear professional boundaries and lead by example.
  • LEAN & Continuous Improvement: Execute the Managing Daily Improvement (MDI) strategy, meet established expectations, and offer efficiency recommendations to the Shop Foreman.
  • Inter-departmental Coordination: Coordinate fluidly with the assembly floor, material handlers, and inventory clerks to ensure raw materials and programmed parts are staged smoothly.
2. Workflow Scheduling & Machine Optimization
  • Daily Scheduling: Map out, organize, and adjust daily team assignments, project priorities, and machine routing throughout the shift based on production timelines.
  • Job Readiness: Track exactly what project each team member is working on, ensuring the next assignment or nested program is ready before current tasks are finished.
  • Machine Distribution: Strategically load work across primary assets—including the CNC machines, beam saws, and edge banders—to prevent production bottlenecks.
3. Training & Onboarding
  • Technical Mentorship: Lead the onboarding and technical skills training for new and existing operators on software and physical machinery.
  • Problem Solving & Escalation: Act as the first line of defense for technical questions regarding machining mistakes, programming errors, or tooling issues.
  • Standards Enforcement: Educate the team on Concepts’ construction practices, raw materials, tooling capabilities, and engineering standards.
4. Hands-On Programming Tasks
  • Code Generation: Create all required programming and part nested patterns for casework and millwork items using Microvellum, Cut-Rite, WoodWop, AutoCAD, or other provided software.
  • Document Packages: Generate accurate lay-up lists, edgeband take-offs, and optimized cut lists via Microvellum to push out to the manufacturing floor.
  • Pre-Production Review: Thoroughly audit and cross-verify shop drawings, plan elevations, detail views, part dimensions, and nested programs for completeness and accuracy prior to releasing them to the machines.
5. Hands-On Machining & Quality Control
  • Machine Operations: Set up, calibrate, and safely operate key machinery including CNC machines, beam saws, edge banders, and other related machining department equipment.
  • Quality Assurance (QC): Actively verify dimensions and edge treatments on processed parts. Gather and review QC sheets from team members as components finish machining to ensure strict quality benchmarks are met.
  • Safety & 5S Maintenance: Maintain a pristine, organized, and hazard-free machinery footprint. Monitor and coordinate regular scrap removal, dust-collection health, and floor sweeping.

🌟 What Makes You a Great Fit

  • Experience: Minimum five (5) years of experience in production machine operation, CNC setup, and technical automated programming preferred.
  • Software Proficiency: Strong proficiency using AutoCAD, Microvellum, Cut-Rite, and/or WoodWop. Competence in Microsoft Excel.
  • Machinery Expertise: Direct, proven experience setting up, calibrating, tooling, and operating commercial CNC machinery, beam/panel saws, and edgebanders.
  • Leadership Aptitude: Prior leadership experience or a demonstrated ability to coach, train, assign work, and handle workflow conflicts professionally.
  • Methodologies: Strong knowledge of LEAN Manufacturing and 5S principles is preferred.

OMB Control Number 1250-0005
Expires 07/31/2029
Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
